All The Details 

This project is for anyone who has a story or perspective about money they’d like to share - whether personal, cultural, emotional, or experiential. 

That includes:

- People who’ve felt confused, ashamed, or conflicted about money

- Those navigating cross-cultural, immigration or class-based experiences

- Creatives, business owners, founders, and freelancers

- Individuals shaped by systemic injustice, scarcity, trauma or silence

- Those who are neurodivergent, disabled or carers 

- Anyone with a story that hasn’t felt safe or valued in 'mainstream' money conversations

Anyone who is fed up of only hearing money stories - about people who are now wildly successful in a 'capitalistic' sense.

You don’t need to be a writer or have it all figured out. If there’s something you’ve carried and want to explore, you’re welcome here.

We are also inviting subject matter experts to get involved - for example with (trauma informed) expertise in therapy, counselling, charity, community organising, advocacy, lending, debt management/insolvency, finance and other relevant modalities that intersect with money to share their perspective.

You can get involved by being a podcast guest, submitting a piece of writing or sharing your story in other medium.

The first step is to complete the expression of interest.

Hi, I’m Harriet Formby - Chartered Accountant, Fractional CFO, and trauma-informed finance coach… which basically means I know the rules of the money game and when they’re complete nonsense.

But first, I’m someone who believes there is nothing wrong with you. No one is “bad” with money. 

If money has felt hard, messy, or like it’s been controlling you - that’s not a personal failing. That’s the world we’ve been handed.

We’re all carrying money stories shaped by family, culture, school, work, and the bigger systems we live inside. And most of those systems weren’t exactly designed with our humanity in mind.

That’s why The Money Story Project exists - to give those stories space, out loud, in all their real, funny, complicated glory.

Because when we hear each other, we remember: we’re not alone, and we’re not the problem.

This is a not-for-profit project and it is currently run 100% on volunteer time and resources.

This includes, where appropriate, the option to share anonymously.

This is a space built on care, consent, and collective liberation.
Honouring the lived experiences of people from varied backgrounds, identities, and lineages - especially those whose stories have been silenced, erased, or shamed by systems of power.

This is not a neutral space.

 This platform will not be used - in any content, conversation, or contribution - to promote, excuse, normalise, or defend transphobia, racism, ableism, white supremacy, colonialism, or any ideologies or narratives that justify occupation or displacement.
